~VINTAGE 1936 BUTCHER BOY WALK-IN COOLER / WINE CELLAR~ ~This is a One of a Kind Vintage Walk-In Cooler made by Butcher Boy in 1936 that is still operational and would make someone a very nice Walk-In Cooler - Bar & Wine Cooler or Wine Cellar in their home or restaurant. HISTORY: This beautiful walk-in cooler was built in Chicago in 1936. It was used at the Main Street Market in Butte, Montana. The Market was a butcher shop and grocery store in years past. In 1984 my brother purchased the cooler for his restaurant, the A la Carte in Bozeman Montana. Will used it for his food storage and as a wine cellar. The attached photos were taken inside his restaurant. Several movie producers wanted to purchase the cooler for their movie sets. The Cooler is currently in climate controlled storage in Dallas Texas. FEATURES: Dimensions: 8 feet long, 6 feet wide, 7 feet tall. Exterior is a beautiful weathered clear oak wood construction with all original hardware. The Butcher Boy name is imprinted on the inside surface of the door. It features two reach-in side glass doors with thermal windows, brass handles and a mirror which is located between the glass doors. The interior has custom adjustable shelving on all three walls and is finished with white enamel paint. The ceiling is pine. The cooler includes a complete cooling set-up with a compressor and a condenser. Compressor can be located near cooler or positioned a distance away. The cooler is insulated with cork in the walls and combination of cork and 2 inches of fiberglass in the ceiling. The cork is useful for moisture absorption. What a powerful conversation show piece! The current unit uses R22. Condensing unit is 110v, Compressor is 220v, 1hp, 20-30 BTU, one evaporator. I can't remember the make or model #'s for the above. The floor is tongue and grove that I covered with linolium (not glued down, tacked on edges). I painted the walls with a restaurant approved white enamal (it with stands constant cleaning). It is assembled by setting each wall on the floof bed and then securing through the pre drilled bolt holes. The ceiling is then "slid" in place (it's light filled with cork) and screwed down. I added a layer of fiberglass insulation to the top for added efficiency. It was used as my walk-in cooler in my exhibition style kitchen/restaurant. The temperature was always in the 34-36 degree range. The brass hinges and catches/handles on the reach-in windows (thermal pain) have been polished and sealed and are in perfect working order. The entire "box" is in very good condition, free standing and has: one floor, four sides w/connecting bolts and hardware (notice clear oak, not knotty.) One ceiling, one Butcher Boy logo door w/hardware, two thermal pain window/reach-in doors with all polished brass hardware, and one beveled mirror between windows! It's been 15+ years since the unit has been in operation. I'd suggest, that with todays technology and cost of installation/service, purchasing a newer (slightly used) condensor and compressor (to save money on elect. consumption and related costs). !
